RESCUE BY HELICOPTER
When I was invited to submit work for a national show in Cazenovia,New York, every idea I could conjure up had already been used by painters in history. After thinking about the painful experiences a horse must endure, I had a vision of a forest fire and how horses are saved by being air lifted out of harms way. After doing a study of a horse harnessed up for a quick rescue , the idea occurred to me, a helicopter would be needed to complete the story. However,it seemed too complex and preliminary sketches didn’t work. One morning I decided to go for it- even though I was dubious about the idea working. I discovered, by creating a vacuum of fire and swirling smoke, I was able to tie the horse and helicopter together completing the composition.
